Shoot me in the smile.
I adore the intricacy, contrast and overlap in your pictures. I see something different and new each time I look.
Very nice. Water colour, ink and acrylic?

thank you, ryan-
watercolor, acrylic, ebony, and more ebony :)
what do you mean by "feels old"?
i always thought ebony was a type of wood... ?
it's a great piece.
would you mind explain some of the apparent symbolism in this?

Sorry it's taken me just under 5 years to reply! oog. Now to answer your question: ...the symbolism in this one has changed a few times... Originally the girl kneeling in the mud embodied something like the taoist attitude. As that began to seem a bit too bitter the picture became simply the illustration of a moment. in which nature was embraced.

'feels old'= now here's a terrible explanation: that statement was born out of my slight spite for taoism- the ideas of which, personally, feel 'old', for want of a better word. (The tapping-into-nature part is all good and well. The other beliefs, however, seem tiring & passive to the point of being wasteful; even zombielike.) As for ebony, it's only a very nice drawing pencil.

Thanks for asking + for your comment as well. I'm glad it caught your eye. :)
This is gorgeous work!! :wow:

so is ebony a type of charcoal?
what would be bitter about taoism?

I believe it's graphite. The cool thing about it is that it draws darkly despite the lead not being soft n all. The harder the lead the finer the point the cleaner the detail.

Here's where Taoism trips me up a bit: "Taoist thought focuses on wu wei, spontaneity, humanism, and emptiness." Wu wei, spontaneity and humanism play a good part in a lifetime. But when it comes to emptiness.. Eh. I can't understand it, let alone embrace it. Maybe because I can't see the good in it, as foolish as that might sound.

Do you think it is a focal point of taoism because it puts all of the substance in life into perspective...? Idk, bro.
